Yea, I think we'll sign Peca and that will be the close of our offseason. There hasn't been any talk or anymore rumors of aquiring any #1 center or anyone else. I hate to say this but I think we're done. I hope there is some possibility of acquiring a #1 center mid-season.

I hope that there is a big time signing or a big time trade so the Jackets get that #1 center.  If they do so then this team has a chance to do something this year.  Are there any big name centers that could go to arbitration?

Where did you find that Morrison got signed? I can't find it. And here are the people who are filing for salary arbitration: http://cbs.sportsline.com/nhl/story/10888108/rss

Obviously Vermette is the biggest name going!  Other than that, just a few middle of the road types.  Here are the possibilities of trade bait or being released from teams over the cap (or close to it)

Brian Sutherby (Ducks)  O.k, so he isn't a top line center, but he is young, inexpensive, and big!  He is a Brassard, but bigger!

Matt Lombardi (Flames)  He isn't that big, but he is very quick and makes plays.  His speed allows him to get to the open ice and helps the wingers get into scoring positions.  The Flames may keep Lombardi because he is younger and part ways with Craig Conroy who is get long in the tooth.  Conroy is still a very good center, but how long can he keep up.

Knuble or Lupul (Flyers)  Philly has got to clear cap space and they have a lot of players locked up at big numbers.  It only makes sense that they would cut or trade players who are FA next year.  Knuble is the most obvious because of his age, but Lupul has had issues with the coaches.  Both are wingers, but could play center and both can score.

This is the best I've got!  By looking at the cap numbers, and looking at the rosters, these are a few names that could be available.  I really think Knuble could be a great target for a trade.  He is older, soon to be a FA, and with the Flyers depth (good looking young talent at winger), they may be willing to trade him for a prospect and a couple draft picks.

^Dont forget that we could pick up another winger and not have to make them play center. Modin ,if healthy, can play center as he has played it before. You bring up some good points though the flyers are the best bet for finding someone to pick up I believe. I think I remember seeing somewhere that they are 800,000 over the cap, so that means they need to drop a pretty well payed player or a couple of younger less payed players.
