Nash/Kovalchuk comparable scenarios?

Ilya Kovalchuk was traded to NJ last night as all of you know by now. I just was thinking how this would be a good trade to watch the long term effects. This might be the closest deal made that we could watch and compare the "what if" scenario if the CBJ organization traded Nash. I am by NO means stating I want Nash traded, but was just thinking about the "what if" scenario happened to the Jackets. Could Nash bring such a return that it would be more beneficial to the team for the long term?
For the record, I still want Nash on this team and would love to see us get a legitimate #1 center to play with him before I truly pass judgement on whether he should stay or go. At this current rate, I'm just not so sure we'll ever see the day he finally gets paired with a Malkin, Crosby, Thornton, Marleau, type center...I am also a big believer in having players start and end their careers with the same team, it just doesn't happen that often and is a special moment when it does happen....especially when holding Lord Stanley's Cup over their head!

I think if we were to trade Nash it'd be a lateral movement. Instead of trading him, shouldn't we go for a quantity vs quality trade and trade 3-4 of our mediocre players for 1 good player?
I am convinced that we are 1 piece away from having a team that's consistently 4-6th spot in the West good. If only Mason, Voracek, and Brassard got to playing like they are supposed to be playing. Then all we'd have to acquire would be that elite d-man or center.
I'd like to see one of Marleau, Carter, Kaberle, Boyle, or Barker in a Jackets jersey next year. Maybe we could brainwash the Ottawa GM and have him trade us Spezza for Umberger + Filatov + Commodore.

Carter is a good option, he's been in lots of trade rumours for the past 3 years. I don't think we will get Spezza but that would also be nice.

I am honestly going to say that Marleau is our best bet. He's a UFA at the end of this season and the Sharks will have to re-sign Nabokov. They are also talking about pursuing Kovalchuk. In all likelyhood, they may let Marleau become a free agent because they don't want to sign him to $5 million or more per year when they have numerous other centers.
He's got a ton of experience, plays with lots of heart, is a great leader, and is an awesome puck distributor.
