It makes a lot of sense that we'd see a 2-1-2 forecheck with the type of players we have.  I can't wait to see more of it.  I love that forwards like Nash, Umberger, and Voracek will have opportunity to be aggressive in the offensive corners and guys like Russell and Jurcina will be encouraged to pinch on the strong side.  This should lead to more shots from the blue line and hopefully the opportunity to bury some rebounds.  I find myself looking forward to Saturday with excitement rather than apprehension.  Anyone else?

2-1-2 is risky seeing as we are already are constanly out of position in the defensive end while playing trap hockey, and also it doesn't get used by a lot of teams these days, THANKS JAQUES LEMAIRE! NOT

However the league is changing, or at least I hope it is, back to a more offensive mindset, thanks to younger players being taught more skills then the good ole bangers from back in the 80s-90s.

We have a pretty fast team, and if we can maintain being aggressive then the 2-1-2 might be a good fit, it would sure look different from the 1-4 that Hitch was running  big grin

Voracek would thrive from the 2-1-2, this change might be for the better.

Barring slow starts, it's not the first 2 periods that get us.  We're usually fast then, hard hitting, and can apply pressure.  It's the 3rd period, 40:00 into the game.  Our guys are poorly conditioned beginning with Nash and on down the line.  Torres and Umby seem to be the best conditioned, however it's easy to see that the Jackets run out of gas short of the 60:00 mark.

If we can play an aggressive game, I'm all for it.  But we can't afford to wear ourselves out prematurely and need to avoid injuries (which hard pressing, hard hitting gameplans seem to lead to).  I think we'll begin to get more aggressive as Brass, Voracek, and the other youngsters develop.  That way we can afford to roll 4 lines as opposed to wearing out Nash because he has to do it all.

Conditioning is definitely an interesting point I hadn't thought of.  However, these guys are professional athletes.  There is absolutely no reason that they shouldn't be able to fix this over the Olympic break.  Not to mention that it should be less of a problem with all four lines sharing more toi.

Now why would we be caught off guard in are defensive zone if where constantly putting pressure against the opposition in there own end good

I mean when your lining up guys like Huselius,Nash,Voracek,Brassard and in the near futur ,Filatov I hope we use the 2-1-2 instead of the 1-2-2 puck dumping style that is more fit for guys like Umberger,Torres that score clutch goals.

It will tough to adopt the 2-1-2 after years of Hitch style hockey, I don't see us being immediately effective, which will lead us to bad positioning.

However if we can become effective at this style it would suit our team very well.

Also, Nash won't have to work overly hard in the 2-1-2, he will be the third man into the zone, and if we do end up retaining possession of the puck he will be able to get into a good shooting area. He won't be doing all the hard work.

4 lines is good, but Commie and Voracek devoted all of summer to conditioning and look how that turned out.  Sure, they're professional athletes and should be expected to be in shape enough to play a good game without getting too exhausted, but Commie (who is making around $4 million) has been totally out of shape all season.  A lot of our guys are the same way.

Commie probably devoted a lot of the summer to drinking as well.....
