I notice since I started attending NHL games how the players off the ice are less likely to get into major trouble. I have yet heard any players from the Jackets get busted for drug use and yet I hear a number of headlines of Matt Jones getting into trouble as well as other players getting arrested for other things
Another thing,
The Walmart where I work, we even have a few players from the CBJ stop by since they live not far from there and they are the nicest you would ever meet. Rick Nash I met a few times and real easy to chat with when I ring him up. It's the same with Boll.
When I live in Jacksonville and when it came to Jaguars players, way different story when I worked at Publix at Jax Beach.
Example: I actually was told by one of my co-workers that he had Tony Brackens who used to play for Jax come through his line and he was downright rude to him.
I had Mark Brunell came through my line and we had a policy similar to Walmart regarding credit cards being signed on the back. I asked for his ID and he just looked at me and yelled "Do you know who I am?"
I told him I just doing my job. Needless to say, I wasn't too big a fan of his after that. The players for the Jaguars always seemed extremely rude with the exception of Donivon(sp) Daries and Kyle Brady.

When I moved up here and became a NHL fan since I started attending home games here I notice another difference. The way the fans act. The fanbase seems to be more affluent and not the type who would get drunk except when we have Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia and even fans there seem to be more restrained than the Eagles, Lions, and Steelers fans.
My question is why is there a big difference with NHL hockey and NFL football.

One word MONEY!!!

The amount of money that payers on average make in the NHL compaired to the NFL is laughable.  Also since hockey is not is not the "biggest sport in the country," players are less noticable and don't get mobbed when they go out in public.  I can remember reading an article in the paper a few years ago where Nash was saying that he can go to a bar with a 3 string OSU linebacker, and more people will come up to that OSU player and know all his stats than Nash.   But go to Canada, and the situations are completely different.  Nash gets mobbed by the public and media everytime he is in Canada.

But look back to the press that Kane got when that whole taxi driver assult thing happened last year.  I can remember seeing a link to Sports Illistrated on CNN website.   So they do get the press when something happens.

Maybe their momma's taught those hockey players a little better.  LOL

Hockey players don't get in as big of trouble but I'm sure they still do alot of illegal things during their offtime, there are plenty of rumours of cokeheads in the Montreal team, most notably price, and we are always joking about Kipper snorting lines off Phaneufs D, too bad that won't happen anymore

but yeah NFL players are under a much bigger spotlight, and for those who live in Ohio everybody has heard of the Bengals, most players arrested since 2000, what a feat.

Always liked the hockey more than football.  For me it's all about the action.  For every minute of game clock in the NFL there are around 6 seconds of play.  For every minute of game clock in the NHL there are 60 seconds of play.

Football is boring as shit to watch.
