we still have yet to get a #1 center to step up to the plate...does this seem like a broken record?

when are we going to get GOOD players in return? I'm sick and tired of getting draft picks and no name players in return for our good players. I'm sick of hearing "we are building for the future". I've been hearing this for just about as long as the Jackets have been in the league, and its starting to reach a certain point where I'm not going to follow them anymore.

when our team plays like an actual NHL hockey team, when they stop loosing like it's going out of style, when we become a legitimate playoff contendor, something that we most definaltey should've been this year

until this happens we will continue to be sellers come trade deadline

Paetsch can help us for the rest of the season!  He is likewise in his final year, so Buffalo probably moved him to make room.  Paetsch can skate and handle the puck because he also played forward for Buffalo.  I really hope we resign Raffi in the off-season.  But I also hope he helps my other (and original because I am from Buffalo) favorite team go far in the playoffs!  Should be interesting the rest of the season.  Should have some room for more youth to come up and play some games.  I keep telling everyone I know, we are only going to be as good as our young guys can take us!  Nash, Brassard, Klesla, Vorichek, Russell, Dorset, Boll, Filitof, and other young players we haven't seen yet!  Getting guys from other teams just don't work.  Ask the NY Rangers! So, my suggestion is to stop looking for a big trade where we bring in King Kong on defense and Gretzky for offense.  It isn't going to happen!

I'm just hoping and praying that they have unloaded Modin/Roy/Torres/Jurcina to give them some room to address this issue in the off season.  What does our payroll look like now?  Does anyone think this could be the case?  I still think we all pray to see the day we get a legitimate #1 center & #1 defenseman on this team.  Of course, those guys are so easy to come by!!!  They are going to have to do something to really bolster this team in the offseason, that is for sure. [/quote]

These moves didnt do much to free up cap space. Modin, Torres, Jurcina were all free agents at the end of the year. We are still stuck with about 47 million in salary, with 5 slots to fill. Thats about 4 million for 5 guys....there is no top line center or defenseman coming to us anytime soon. This year has regressed us about 3 years, unless we make HUGE shake ups (aka. trading our young assests...sigh like filatov, brassard, and voracek)

Last year being thre exception where we actually made a trade that made us look serious....I still remember the exictement and joy of getting Vermette for Leclair, oh glory days.

The only luxury we have now is hope for next year that Filatov,Brassard,Voracek and Mason can pan out and set us back on track.

Dont give up on Brassard soon, he was a point per game player before dropping the gloves against Neal. And Filatov might break out now that Ken ''the youth killer'' Hitchcock is gone.

I am going to hope these moves will free up some room for some young guys and to possibly fix our blue line problems.  I wouldn't be surprised for a big shake up there during the off season and hopefully we can pick up someone big.  But now that the trade deadline has passed, all we can do is speculate until the end of this season.

its going to take more than Voracek(until he learns to score), Brassard(until he is confident in himself), Filatov(if he even plays for us at all), and Mason(Who needs to do some serious, game footage, figure out, that they have figured you out, and staying alert at all times)

Its gonna take the John Moore's and the Cody Goleoubef's to step up, if we are talking about young players. Again we are probably not going to see much progress next year, due to both Moore and Goleoubef still playing in Juniors and College. Not to say they are the savior's of this team, but peices that would be nice to utilize.

We can't trade Brassard, Vorichek or any of the core young guys!  That would be suicide!  Salary Cap room has to have been helped by Modin, Jurcina, Torres, Picard, etc moving on.  We did pay them this year, right?  If they aren't here, neither is their salary.

but we dont pay them next year, Nash's contract balloons to 7.5, Juice's god awful contract is over 4 mil, umberger's contract is close to that, then there's commodore's contract. Like i said Modin, Torres, and Jurcina are off the books for next year, they were not added into that 47 million.

Voracek is a playmaker , I hope the organisation has that in mind , if you look at his junior stats , he has something like 20 goals and 70 assists.

I only see Moore making the jump not Gouloubef.....also Regner is supposed to get a chance.

I should have used a different example than golouebef, Maybe Savard. But i think you know what i mean. Plus you can't look at Voracek's junior stats...they are just that junior stat's....game is slower.

Dont get me wrong i LOVE Brass and Jake, i want them to succeed. But if moving them gets us better consistently and sooner. I am all for it. Brassard is my favorite player, I want him to stay, but i want whats best for the team.

Besides the loss of torres I was ok with the dumping. Yes although having 47 million for a few guys is a lot of money we are paying out .. not having modin and company's salary will be some semi help considering I dont think howson is done. Maybe for now but i have a mighty feeling that come summer you might be seeing a few more player departing. Just what ive heard

I agree with FiveHole - Huselius and/or Commodore need to go.  A budget team cannot afford to have the type of player who makes ~$4 million/year and doesn't contribute.

Either they go or the internal cap needs to be raised.  I mean, if you guys haven't noticed our d pairings look like:
Hejda Methot
Stralman Tyutin
Commie/Klesla/Paetsch Russell.

Red = Guys who would be on the bottom pairing on most other teams.

the cap is 57 million...they have 47 committed to 18 players..if filatov comes back thats kicks it to 49 million and we would still be about 8 million under the cap...
