Who are this teams "studs" other than Nash?

As I've posted, I'm taking a newly strong interest in hockey.  Nash is obviously a respected player on this team.  Who else are the "studs" for the CBJ?  Thanks in advance for tolerating what might seem like a lame-o question.

Goaltender Steve Mason. Came up as the regular with the Jackets last year and has been performing pretty well ever since. I'd also throw in RJ Umberger as one of my favorites, not afraid to drop the gloves and kick some ass.

our best forwards are Nash, Voracek, Umberger, Vermette (in my opinion)

hejda has been good but he's having an off year on the defensive side, but overall our d is weak.

I agree.  Our "studs" have to be Nash, Mason and Umberger

Unfortunately Nash is the only stud we have in town.

Mason isn't proven as he's shown throughout this year.  Look at Jim Carey and the plethora of 'flash in the pan' goalies out there.  Hopefully he ends up being a 'stud' but that remains to be seen.  If he puts up a couple more seasons like his rookie, then no question.

Vermette, Umberger, and Klesla (when healthy) are good players but not studs.  The team would be fine and perform relatively the same without them.

Up an comers.  Brassard, Voracek, and Filatov all have great potential and remain to be seen.  Hopefully they pan out.

Unfortunately, we have been the most unlucky team when it comes to draft time.  We lose coin tosses, we don't win the lottery when we have the chance, we have the next pick behind the five, or six or seven can't miss guys.  Just look at the draft history.  The only way you get a solid chance to win more than one Stanley Cup is to have great drafts.  Picking guys up from other teams does not work.  You have to have a guy like Nash but you need more than just Nash.  Look at Pittsburgh, Detroit, and most of the Stanley Cup winning teams other than Carolina, who stole the cup that year.  All the other teams have two or three or more of Nash's abilities.  Detroit has Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsuk.....Pittsburgh has Malkin, Crosby, Stall, etc....We need our young players to get the chance to play and develop.

OK, RW its not all luck in the draft. Its your scouting department and Upper Management. Yes, we have been right there after the cant miss guys. Go back and look at our drafts.....how many legitamite busts have we had or head cases. Lets take a look shall we??? Picard- bust, Pascal Leclaire - bust(eventhough its because of injury), Nik Zherdev - bust (headcase), Gilbert Brule - bust (alcoholic/head case). Filatov - (maybe a bust, if he doesnt comeback), Brassard (jury is still out), Voracek (jury is still out). John Moore - Jury is still out, too soon to tell.

Klesla - has not lived up to billing, servicable yes. Not a bust, but has underperformed
Nash - Has Met most expectations, dont know if he is Captain material(too soon perhaps)

So...of our 10 drafts, 2....2 number one picks have worked out well for us to this point. At 20% effectiveness i have to believe that when you miss 80% of the time....its more than bad luck.

IMO, in our first round draft history:

1 stud

1 decent NHL player, but not amazing (also, he seems prone to injuries)

2 complete busts (just nowhere near as talented as they were made out/expected to be)

1 semi-talented player, done in by injuries (though he probably wasn't quite a 1st round talent, even if healthy).  Had moments of brilliance, but ended up not being a huge contributer to us

1 really talented player, done in by prima donna issues.  Moments of brilliance, but ended up not being a huge contributer.  I don't like blaming the scouts for this as much, because he was definitely a first-round talent (and probably top ten), but you have to take into account character when drafting, too

1 player headed down the path of the prima donna mentioned above (hopefully, he'll turn it around)

2 players that appear to be decent-good NHL players, but not stars.  Still probably too early to tell on them, though

1 player it's way too early to tell on (I'm optimistic, though)

If you're drafting at the #30 spot every year, the results above still are not very good.  But top 10 every year, and those picks are just pathetic.

And I underestand we haven't gotten some of the breaks, as far as not winning the lottery, just drafting out of the top 5 many years, etc, and I hate that teams like the Penguins got the #5 pick (Whitney) followed by three #1 overall picks in a row (Fluery, Malkin [I realize he was the #2 pick, but he was behind Ovie.  Malkin's essentially a #1 overall pick, virtually any other year], Crosby) and a #2 (Stall).  Still, we should be drafting much, much better than what we are.

I agree, we haven't done the best in the draft, but the draft is almost all luck outside to top 1-5 players

I actually think #5-10 is the worst because you're going after players who have a lot of hype but aren't as good as the #1-4.  You're afraid to pass them up because "what if..." but also they may not fill a particular weak spot on your team.

If Tyutin could ever get his head on straight, he'd be a stud.  As is, he makes stupid plays and horrible turnovers.  He's been picking up, though, since the Olympics and seems to be getting more confident.  He had a wicked hit in the Vancouver game on Ryan Kesler. 

The difference between Mase and Filatov is that Mase has something to show for his being a stud last year and is starting to pick up again this year.  Filatov has nothing yet except 1 hat trick and he expects everyone treat him like he's the #1 winger.
