By Blue Jackets Staff  - Writer

Jared Boll
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed right wing Jared Boll to a two-year contract General Manager Scott Howson announced July 13. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Boll, 24, recorded four goals and three assists for seven points and 149 penalty minutes in 68 games with the Blue Jackets in 2009-10. He led the club in penalty minutes for the third-straight season and ranked 15th in the NHL in that category.

"We are very pleased to complete this two-year deal with Jared," Howson said. "He has proven to be a great teammate in his three years in Columbus and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow as a player."

Columbus' fourth pick, 101st overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Boll has registered 13-18-31 and 555 penalty minutes in 218 career NHL games. He set career highs in assists and points in 2008-09 with 4-10-14 and 180 penalty minutes in 75 games. During his rookie season in 2007-08, he tallied 5-5-10 and 226 penalty minutes to rank second in the NHL in penalty minutes.

Prior to his professional career, the Charlotte, North Carolina native played two seasons with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. He totaled 47-49-156, 403 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +16 in 131 career OHL games. In 2005-06, he was named the Whalers' Labatt Blue Collar Player of the Year en route to helping the club win the OHL championship and earn a berth in the Memorial Cup. He also spent two seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League from 2003-05 and notched 29-32-61 and 470 penalty minutes in 116 games.

The Blue Jackets are commemorating their 10th NHL season in 2010-11. Season tickets as well as six-, 10- and 20-game packages are on sale now. For information, call (800) NHL-COLS or visit BlueJackets.com. Information regarding sales of single game tickets for all home pre-season and regular season games will be announced later this summer.

Smart move by Howson, and fair to both the organization and the player to boot. Happy to say that we still have this guy around!  Carry the Flag

solid move... im glad hes gonna be around for awhile longer... i like the guy alot...

but...

i was a little surpised by this... i really thought he wasnt gonna stick around.. ( not that he wouldnt have wanted to... ) i just thought he wasnt in the GMs master plan moving forward... especially with the last draft and the new coach...

but again i am happy ... just a little surprised

good signing in my opinion, he didnt have the best season last year but he also didnt play many shifts, he'll have to make a impact in the icetime given if he wants to be a part of our team
