The Juice is Loose!!!

« on: December 29, 2010, 10:37:03 AM »

Tom Sestito is being reassigned back down to AHL. I read that if he was to play 1 more game he would need to clear waivers to be sent back down so they are doing it now.

Here is the issue...  he SHOULDNT need to go back down at all. The guy is much more valuable to this team than either Boll or Dorsett. The reasoning for sending him back down now has some merit, we dont want to lose the guy for nothing, but i just dont see a reason why he needs to ever go back down. He is solid out there and has been helping out on the ice!

dont know about this move...  dry

I would scratch Voracek off that list , yes he's not delivering but it,s not like he's been a failed project so far. I dont get this, how come Montreal got Wiznewsky (a power play quarterback for only a second and fith rounder , and we cant come up with a better package deal). Either Snow is a terrible gm or Howson isnt making enought phone calls.

Hopefully they bring him back quickly.  He has been far better than a lot of the team.

Trading Voracek would make perfect sense for this organization, and would be along the same lines as this organization has been ran for its existence.

Personally, I hope Jake does get traded, for his sake!  I feel for the guy, he could use a line to play with that actually isn't lazy, takes pride in defending rather than cherry picking, and comes to play every game!  Good luck, and hopefully the package will include Umberger and Vermette!

What are we thinking?!? bang head

Dorsett is nowhere near the type of asset this guy is, Sestito has shown grit, and has been tough enough to win fights for us and give us momentum. He is the epitome of what the organization is trying to promote: Hardcore Hockey, even says it in the locker room on the wall, yet we send him right on back.

Boll has at least popped in a few goals recently and has dropped the gloves, he seems more active throughout the couse of a given game than Dorsett imo.

Idk about the whole trade Voracek thing, I would tend to think if we give him a month or two and then see how he's playing we will be more sure of who we are dealing with in terms of value, but that could be either good or bad, and that is a risk we may have to take.

the only reason i mentioned voracek at all is this... calgary is in turmoil... and its bad... really bad...they just fired the GM and are about to fire the coach ( yes another sutter ) and they are up against the cap bigtime... the players ( big tickets ) theyve brought in ... havent worked... there is a feeling that iginla either wants out... or may be asked to waive his no trade clause...

so im thinking wow... wouldnt it be great to see him along side # 61 ...? wearing union blue...

i think a deal could be done... obviously it would involve a mix of young talent and a major contract as well...

im thinking...

mike commodore
jake voracek
nikita filtov

for...

jarome iginla
flames second pick

I got to agree, I was disappointed to hear Sestito was sent down.  I was really starting to like that guy and I agree, he is a much better player and fighter  than Dorsett or Boll.

I do understand to an extent why he was sent down, but I see him coming back up and a good contract being sent his way.

I do think something may be up with Jake.  His contract expires at the end of this season and there have been no rumors of talk.  We signed Mason (too early) before the regular season even started, but no talk with Jake.  I don't want to loose him, I think he is a great player when he is matched up with a good line but I won't be surprised to see his name on the bargaining block.

And several analyst have mentioned it too!  Jake actually has trade value, and most teams want him!  The only other person with maybe more value would be Nash, and we know that won't happen.  So, you are right, any trade of any value would probably include him!  Will it include Iginla, I doubt it, but I am not sure that makes us better!  Offensively, yes!  But, two things to factor! 1) He has played with some decent players who have added to his point totals (and what he would come to here wouldn't improve that) 2) He is getting older and you can see it in his play, especially on the defensive end!  He would be a downgrade defensively!

You would get an aging guy on the down swing (Federov) of a career who is 33!  Jake is 21, improving every year, and is on tap to give you 50 points (again) and solid defensive play!  Again, you have to trade something to get something, but giving up this for Iginla, doesn't improve us.  NOW, Filatov/Dorsett/Tuytin/and a pick, o.k then Iginla makes you better for a short period!

im telling you getting rid of filatov who you just went on a rant about being young and getting better every year, would be the biggest mistake this franchise can do. A 60 goal scorer in a few years .. what a waste

No, he would be better than federov more than likely!  Just pointing out that Iginla (as good as he is) is 33 and on the down slope of a career.  We got a big name in federov, but we got him several years past his prime, the same as Iginla!  I believe he would produce a little better, but to expect the same numbers he has put up in the past, or even last year is a reach!
Not saying don't try and get him, he still is better than a lot of our players, but not at the expense of a proven young player.  And I guess the question would be, are we preparing to win now or next year???  Because it will take more than just Iginla, and if you are trying to build for two or three years, Iginla is 36 and that wouldn't be the answer to winning then!

Thanks for the assist hogg!  Still a decent player but numbers on the way down, and if you look at overall points and over the past 5 years, its just the way it is!  Plus, he isn't going to have the players beside him that he has had.
