I can't find the link now. But one from 4 days ago was Carter for Ryan Miller. I don't see it happening but with this team who knows.

At this point, if they truly are going to trade Carter, I would hope they could make it happen with Vancouver.  I don't care which goalie we get in return at this point.  Although, I'm almost more interested in them getting Luongo than Schneider at this point.  Yes, I understand his contract is not good for any club to take on, but I think it would be great to see Mason stay on with this team as our #2 goalie and learn from one of the league's best goaltenders (nobody wants Mason with his current contract anyways).  I know most people just want to see Mason go away, but I still believe the kid has the skills to be one of the better goaltenders in this league, he's just not ready mentally.  And at 23 years of age, he's still got time to ride the pine and learn first hand how to be a great goalie in this league.

Unfortunately, none of this will happen and Mason will be released/bought out after this season.  Then he'll get picked up by some team for a much better deal and then eventually flourish elsewhere.  Classic case of the CBJ rushing their best prospects.  bang head

Rumor from Eklund was that Calgary was taking a run at Carter. But there are several teams that would be interested. Problem is his contract.

Toronto wants Nash.

Nobody wants Mason.

Vermette, Brassard, Prospal, Pahlsson, Huselius would be the others likely to get interest.

I suppose the most difficult concept of this deadline to grasp is that Howson is still at the reigns.

I honestly believe there are teams that will take Mason.  I think he will do great in the East and look how many teams in the East are having issues with goalies or have very aging goalies.  If we can't pull off a trade, he will not last long if we put him on waivers.

As for Carter, I guess we will see.  Not sure how many teams would be willing to take his contract and salary hit for the return.  But if he is asking for the trade, make something happen.

But what ever trades we make, please do not let any of our young talent or prospects go.

So here are some ideas that are flying around. They are a little dated but they might make sence too.

AP mentioned on local news here Saturday night that the Kings could be one of the landing spots for Carter, where they would get Bernier in return.  Not sure how I feel about that.  Would much rather get Schneider or Rask (as long as we can get them to sign extended contracts) in return.

of course teams would still want a chance on Mason ... consider this

he is young and is kinda like a stock that has crashed ... but if you get him cheap why not see if he can rebound and you would not be risking much

buy low, sell high.

who on our team is over achieving?

DMac, Nikky Nik, Sanford, maybe Dorsett.  These are the guys I look to be traded besides the short-timers like Vinny (hate to see him go), Pahlson, Huselius.

This seems like the first year in awhile we've been no doubt sellers.   angry

Can't remember where I was reading this (perhaps a link posted by a forum member), but the contract itself isn't that bad. It's the length of the contract. Carter is young and in the prime of his career.

He's signed on for 5+ million a year. In Carter, you have a guy who in the past 3 seasons has scored 30+, 30+, and 40+. At a little over 5 mil, Carter is a steal in the right market. He has no desire or drive to play here, I don't think anybody is arguing that anymore. When he's on the ice, he doesn't care, you can see it in his play. Imagine if he did care and had a better attitude...he'd be a force like he was in Philly. Put him around the right group and in the right market and you're going to have a 40 goal scorer signed at 5 million...good luck finding more of those at that price.

Of course he'll be getting WAAAAAAAAYYYY overpaid by the time he is 35, but I can only imagine he has at least another 6-7 GOOD years in him. We could get a lot for Carter...except we have a nincompoop like Howson running the show.

Bottom line if Carter is available Howson better wheel in a good young starting netminder and reward Sanford in a backup role for next year.

A good read on Carter rumors...

http://tenminutemisconduct.com/?p=1394

Let me just say this, as long as we have Priest and Howson (CBJ version of a "Dog & Pony Show") here, the more often than not that markee players like Carter are not going to want to come here and play.  I am really disappointed with Carter and his apparent lack of care of being here.  I was so excited when we got him and really thought for the first time we got a guy that can take this club to new heights and with his price tag, it was a steal.  If all the rumors are true and the actions on the ice speak louder than anything to me, I say good riddance.  I want guys here that WANT to be here.  And if the return for Carter nets us two players that make this team better, I'm all for it.  I just hope we can one day have that #1 center we so desperately need.  I think Johansen is our best bet, but how long until he gets to were we need him to be playing? Only time will tell.

I don't know much or heard much about LA's Backup goalie. Is he our answer? I almost wish we could get someone a little more known like schnider or Rask.
