Blue Jackets could buy or sell TheFourthPeriod.com

With the trade deadline inching closer, Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson is faced with a very difficult decision, reports the Columbus Dispatch. Howson, according to the paper, has to decide whether the team is a buyer or a seller before the Feb. 26 deadline.

The Blue Jackets are battling for a playoff spot and the Dispatch suggests the team could go after the likes of Mike Comrie (New York Islanders) or Vaclav Prospal (Tampa Bay Lightning).

However, the paper notes that if the team is a seller, it could move such players as Sergei Fedorov, Adam Foote [no-trade clause], Michael Peca or David Vyborny. The Dispatch claims the Blue Jackets are interested in Ottawa Senators youngster Antoine Vermette. The Senators are searching the market for help up front and on the blueline.

Meanwhile, the paper also reports the New Jersey Devils like center Manny Malhotra.

The Trade Deadline gets me excited every year. (if you can watch it on the score home of the hardcore not TSN!) This year I want some moves on Columbus' side. If it's true that they are looking at Vaclav Prospal then I'm stoked, he's quite underrated and could really help columbus score during their playoff push. I want to keep Adam Foote because he's I feel he's a key player, same thing with Manny Malhotra.

what do you guys think?

I would like for us to be buyers this year.  We definately need another scorer for the run.

This team has never really tasted success and the fans are tired of being out of it, they need to push it this year.

You want fans, you need a team to start doing better, and the CBJ wont do better till they have more than just nash and leclair. you guys wont get Hossa(we will) but yeah, more offense, and maybe CBJ makes playoffs

im sorry but i do not believe it is more offense as much as it is we need DEFENSE.  there is only one established defender on our team.  the jackets need to pick up a defensemen to play along foot so it is a true shutdown line.  you do this and you can move hejda with tarnstorm and have hainsey and klesla as your third

Good point.

Whatever they do they need to play more consistent.  I want them to make a move.  It's tiring always being sellers and waiting til next year.

Lets not give up Manny Malhotra our number one faceoff guy. Manny may not be a goal scorer but he does play hard constantly and isn't afraid to check.

It's always tough to give up talent.  If we continue to slide I doubt we'll be buying.

Here's my blockbuster deal that will never happen........

To Columbus : Brad Richards, Dan Boyle, Vaclav Prospal

To Tampa Bay: David Vyborny, Rostislav Klesla, Andrew Murray, 1st and a pending 2nd Round Draft Pick (if we make the playoffs the 2nd round pick comes into play)

I dunno about you guys but I think I'd take this deal

That's an interesting deal.  I do think the Jackets need to start looking to win NOW so I think it's a deal I would consider.

You're right, it won't happen.

Hi all...first post here!!

All this talk of Richards potentially coming here has my hopes high - I think he could be great for what we are needing.

As rumored, I think Fritsche, Brule and Tollefsen sounds like a good trade for Richards.  Very excited to see what this team looks like on Wednesday night.

3 for Richards is a little surprising especially wit Richards contract.
