I like the deal... gave up an asset that we arent really using and nailed down a solid offensive player. I was hoping for either Vermette or Connolly, so getting one of them makes me happy!

i think it was a good deal and throwing in the 2nd rounder doesnt bother me in the least.

Good luck to LeClaire, i wish him the best in Ottawa, i was always a big fan of his. he will do well there!

something else to keep in mind about this deal... it opens up the books a bit in the future. Vermette is set to make less than LeClaire next season, and following that he is FA. LeClaire was set to make almost 5 mill that season.

here is espn's computor take on vermette and his effect on the jackets.......( i know it's espn).............

Which Vermette will the Blue Jackets get?

To Columbus: Antoine Vermette

To Ottawa: Pascal Leclaire, second round draft pick

Columbus Trade Impact
If Vermette stays in his funk from this season, this trade won't aid the Columbus Blue Jackets' quest for the playoffs, but he could pay dividends if he resumes his form from 2007-08.

Scenario Playoff Chances
pre-trade 55.5%
w/ Vermette 2008-09 55.2%
w/ Vermette 2007-08 58.4%
This deal works out well for both teams, despite that Vermette is having a down year, with nine goals and 19 assists in 62 games. That puts Vermette on pace for 11 goals this season, after averaging 21 goals the last three seasons. Given the lack of output this season, Columbus' projections with Vermette actually decrease, but that doesn't really do this deal justice.

Vermette could be a top-6 forward in Columbus, with the potential to get extra playing time on the power play and penalty kill units. The change in scenery, and the increased roles, could be enough for Vermette to return to his 2008 numbers, giving Columbus a good push for the playoffs.

In AccuScore's 10,000 simulations, Vermette was included as a top-6 forward in two scenarios: using this year's numbers and using last year's numbers. If Columbus can coax Vermette back to his old form, its playoff chances increase by three percentage points.

Leclaire has a chance next season to be the No. 1 goalie the Ottawa Senators need. Leclaire had a down year this year, with a 3.83 GAA and an .867 save percentage, but this deal will work out great for Ottawa if he returns to the 2008 version that posted a 2.25 GAA and a .919 save percentage, even before you include the draft pick.

Well, my Avalanche let me down again haha. But I knew we didn't have the center the cbj's were after for LeClaire :(  .  Fly is happy and I'm sure has ordered a Vermette jersey already lol. I will let you guys know that even though Vermette has been playing some center he is a better winger. So I expect him to finish this season as a center unless it just doesn't work and then next season have Umberger between him and someone.

Vermette says himself that he is more comfortable at Center and that Ottawa kinda threw him into wing. He said he has played center most of his career and that is where he is comfortable.

He is a natural center, with obvious center skills!  His role in Ottawa was clouded at best.  He shows how good he really can be when he is in control of the puck, especially with talented wingers.  If he is centered between Nash and Jake, you will see an explosive line.  I can even see him being dominate between Umberger and Juice, possibilities are unlimited with this guy.  He has the upper hand right now (experience wise) to be the #1 center!

that's good to hear, hopefully he can find his game as a centerman again
