So, I had an idea and wanted to run it past you guys and more specifically Nate. I do not know how hard this would be to accomplish but I would be more than willing to help in anyway if I can. I was thinking we could do some sort of an award system of sorts where when someone got a certain number of posts, recruiting members, etc. they had a small ribbon or picture about the size of the smileys that was placed below that individuals avatar. Nate if you know of a way to do that I would be more than willing to make the ribbons/logo things as I have a degree in Graphic Design and make free lance logos and such all the time for clients until I find a real job haha. Just and idea and wanted to hear your thoughts about this topic guys? 

Not only could this be a cool new feature for the site, but it could also attract more attention to the site and more activity.

Tuskin, I like the idea, they use it on the LetsGoWings.com forum and it seems to work. It would be better if we had more posters but I'm sure when we make the playoffs more will come. I've been posting the sites address on facebook bluejackets groups, I hope everybody else does the same!

i know that Nate had mentioned he is working on a points type system. He said that we would be able to put effects on our names and stuff like that. not sure exactly where i read that, but i know he is working on somethin similar to this.

Good idea.  There is a mod for something like this.  Although, to give the awards is more of a manual process.  It doesn't automatically give an award, a moderator or I would have to manually place the award.  

The problem is it's not installing properly right now.   Basically it's not installing on the newer versions of the forum software so the author needs to fix it.

Ironically, I was looking at that mod to add over the last few days which is why I know it's not working.  I'm going to keep an eye out for it and as soon as there is an update I'll get it.

On the point system mod, I'm still working on that.  I have it up on a test site and I"m trying to work out all the the things I might want to add.  The only thing is I may or may not be able to add that here.  I don't know if we'll have conflicting code.   I haven't tried it yet.  I'm not really ready to commit to the points system mod yet.  I'd love to put it on here, I just don't know if it'll work yet, so I don't want you guys getting your hopes up!

OK, I hacked the code a little on the awards mod and got it to work on this site.  Pretty easy, the author just didn't update the compatible versions. 

Anyway, I put a sample award on your profile Tuskin, should be a little pic of a beer.  Let me know if that's the general idea of what you were thinking about. 

BTW, no go on the Shop mod.   The code scares me and it causes errors and will probably prevent any further modifications.

I wanted to make sure this was basically what Tuskin was thinking.  If this will work, we'll have to outline what gets an award. 

We can change the size of the awards to make them bigger or smaller.  The only thing is if they get to big they'll really stretch a persons post profile and will limit how many they can get.

Nate if you get a chance you should check out www.letsgowings.com, it's really really well set up, definatley the best hockey forum site I've ever laid eyes on, ecluding 247 of course 

but seriously if your looking for ways to update 247 you should try and use letsgowings as a mentor

They have a nice site.  They're using different forum software so what they do there may not be applicable to this site and it's forum software.  Just so you know.  Plus, I'm not a big fan of IPB.  For what they charge they have way to many issues.  But I see your point and appreciate you pointing me there.

Thats exactly what I was going for Nate great job! The size thing does not make that big of a difference to me I think the size is fine how it is. Just the overall idea of having an award system is what I was going for. Thanks Nate 

Now we just need to figure out what overall awards we want to have, so now I open it up to all of you. I do not want this to be a one man show where I make up everything I want everyones input and want this to be a group effort as a bluejackets247 family haha

Recruiting a certain number of members: 1 member, 5 members
Number of years with the form: 1st month, 1st year, 2nd year
Perhaps have a birthday ribbon where it is on for the month that they are celebrating that special bday

All great ideas Tuskin, we need to design a system of finding out how people found out about our site because I do daily recruiting, prime example simpsonsfan.

I like the four reward systems, the birthday thing is a good idea. Maybe not right now but if the site gets bigger we could start a booster operation where we get donations from members, its another idea from letsgowings. It would just be small donations to ensure the site runs smoothly, some incentive for all the hard work you guys do with it. If you make a donation then you get a booster patch, there could be like bronze, silver, and gold boosters all depending on how much is donated.

I think there might be a referral mod that is available.  From what I've seen you can either type in who referred you or you can generate a link on this site and then post it somewhere else and when someone travels here and registers from that link it will give the person credit who created the link.  I guess it places a cookie on the persons browser that has the user ID built into it and it stay up to 60 days.  Now....I haven't tested this yet but that's what the mod says!  We may be able to do the referral system if it test out properly.  I'll start testing it this week.
