is filatov off to the KHL.....from todays dispatch.......

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2009/11/17/jackets_notes_11-17.ART_ART_11-17-09_C1_1KFMVNK.html?sid=101

hoggservation......

this is a very delicate situation IMO....filatov let it be known early on that he wasn't keen on another season in syracuse. scotty does not want to let a first round pick walk away, and even tho it seems to me that he is not ready for the nhl at this time,it also bugs me that hitch can't seem to find any minutes for him. this could get ugly and somewhere, someone is not going to be happy...

hitch is in charge of playing time as he should be and doesn't think filatov is ready. it looks from the outside that scotty is keeping him on the roster to keep filatov happy and is wanting hitch to play him. hitch doesn't want to cave in to either one as that would send ripples thru the locker room. the old saying of the inmates running the asylum applies here.

IMO if filatov leaves for russia,he won't be back in a bluejackets sweater. at least as long as hitch is the coach. so scotty would have to look at two options. fire hitch and play filatov,or trade filatov and get something in return. to me the first option is out of the question. the problem with dealing filatov is now the bluejackets are dealing from a point of weakness...they know that scott has to move him with the risk of filatov bolting to russia. and if you trade for him that risk is still there. and as a general manager trading for filatov, you have to wonder what you are trading for. the player with tremendous offensive upside or the player who seems spoiled and wants to take his puck and go home when he doesn't get his way.....

the next couple of days should be very interesting.....

Can't see article from work but if he does go I'd have serious reservations about taking another Russian or satellite country kid high in the draft.  Ours have all been aloof, egocentric and/or spoiled.  Thus they haven't panned out.

i think you will see less highly-touted Russian born players coming across to play, Well until the KHL goes under.

This is bad.  I wonder if there is a riff brewing between Howson and Hitch over this.

I agree we might end up like the Panthers when they had to deal Jay Bowmeester for a draft pick and Leopold.

That being said ,I wouldnt be surprised if there are  a bunch of teams that line up for him, its not like he will sign with another NHL team next year(he's still ours for two years) . I have a huntch that these teams might be interested.

Nashville
Montreal
NY Islanders
Edmonton

With that said, the more important issue would be what would we get in return?  Whatever happens, it's definitely a very sticky situation that we just do not need adding to our current problems.

NHL.com is reporting it as well.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=506446

puckhogg, there is also one other possibility, a far-fetched one at best. That is, Filatov does some hardcore conditioning and begins to learn Hitch's style of play. I doubt it will happen, but if he wants to play for us, maybe he will go that route.

Personally, I think Russian players are very hit or miss. Some have a chip on their shoulder and all think they are the best. I remember seeing Zherdev at Easton on a night he was scratched. The US isn't Russia, we actually have to work here.

Most of all though......I'm really glad I didn't buy a Filatov jersey  good
