i don't know, our d is where we need help now, unless we start playing more consistently like we did against florida the other night.

I don't think anything imminent will happen anyways, but no reason not to keep an eye out

But surely Lee cant be what where looking for, Im sure that if Howson annonces that Filatov is up for grabs there will be at least 6 teams in some sort of mini bidding war.

you're right, filatov will be a hot topic around the league if he is openly put on the market

We have Stralman, Russell, and Moore.  We don't need Lee.

DISCLAIMER: By commenting on this topic I am in no way saying that all of your comments are not right, nor am I saying that my opinion is the only one.  I am merely stating what I feel, in my words, and therefore mean no disrespect to anyone on this sight!   big grin

Comment: Brian Lee would be an immediate upgrade to our defense.  He would become the best defender on the team, close to the play of Klesla (I think a little better)!  He is not an NHL top 10 all star defenceman by any means, however, he has the tough workman like attitude on the D end that we need!  He is young, big, and is not expensive (contract exension) and very cap friendly!  I would like to see us get Lee, but I would still like us to go after another defenceman more in the lines of a top guy!

I don't think Lee for Filatov straight up is equal, however our situation makes it a need.  I would like to see us target Foligno also!  Filatov, Tuytin, and a mid round pick for these two, I think we would like it after a while!

another player on ottawa who isn't performing well, Jason Spezza

maybe he's someone invovled in a possible trade with them, but we would be loosing more than Filatov

I would love it though!

I pose this question to everyone! All things being equal, this team as is, do you believe the addition of Filatov next year to this group (basically replacing Modin who we won't resign $$$) will make us win more games and be competitive in the west?  Seeing what our problems are, is Filatov the answer to making us 10 games better?

Or, is our need to beef up the D, and slow other teams down so pressing, that giving up an offensive talent like that WORTH the deal?

That is kinda how I am looking at it, what do you guys think?

filatov WILL NOT ever wear a CBJ jersey again ... and even if he does... which he wont ( theres a reason he left for russia) if hitch is still in charge of who gets ice time ( a chance ) he wont even bother coming to training camp

so i say this... wait until after the world juniors ( hope like hell he plays up to his abilities ) = scores lots of killer goals and gets some great publicity ... then work a deal either during the olympic break or at trade deadline whichever comes first...

my target would be a dependable center or defenseman...

Filatov has no place on this team as far as Hitch is concerned. If he comes back I will not be pleased, I'd much rather see the skill-set of Filatov on a team who's coach enjoys players with skill, and not a coach who puts stone hands chimera on our 1st and 2nd lines.

Bah...if the season keeps going the way its going then I think Howson will look to do some salary dumping, meanning Huselius and his big fat 4 million dollar contract might be moved. That might leave a vacant spot for Filatov and force Hitch to find an excuse to play him on the top two lines.
